McDonald Army Health Center Enhances Access With New ScriptCenter

By Andrew Brown

McDonald Army Health Center is expanding prescription services for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community with the installation of a new ScriptCenter kiosk at the Post Exchange refill pharmacy. The kiosk allows patients to pick up refill prescriptions after normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, providing a convenient option for beneficiaries with demanding schedules.

The automated ScriptCenter is designed to enhance accessibility while ensuring patients maintain timely access to their medications. By offering a secure self-service solution, MCAHC is addressing one of the most common challenges faced by military families, retirees and civilian employees—finding time to pick up prescriptions during the pharmacy’s operating hours.

Lt. Col. Michael Brown, MCAHC’s Commander, said the addition of the ScriptCenter reflects the health center’s commitment to readiness and patient-centered care. “Readiness doesn’t stop at the clinic doors,” Brown said. “The ScriptCenter gives our community a tool to manage their health more efficiently, which ultimately strengthens our Soldiers and their Families. This provides an avenue for patients to get their medications on their schedules.”

The ScriptCenter kiosk provides a secure and convenient method for prescription refills. Starting Monday, September 22nd, patients can request refills through the existing system by calling 757-697-5316 and specifying the ScriptCenter as their preferred pickup location. Once a prescription is processed and available, patients will retrieve their medication using a government-issued identification card and a personal identification number, or PIN. This system is designed to safeguard patient privacy and ensure accurate medication dispensing.

Maj. Jade Snader, Deputy Commander for Nursing and Patient Support Services, emphasized the impact on continuity of care. “Medication compliance is critical to overall health,” Snader said. “By making prescriptions available at more convenient times, we’re helping patients stay on track with their treatment plans. This reduces the risk of missed doses and improves long-term outcomes for the people we serve.”

The addition of the ScriptCenter also helps streamline operations for MCAHC’s pharmacy team. By shifting routine refill prescription pickups to the kiosk, pharmacy staff can focus more time and resources on clinical consultations and complex medication needs.

Cpt. Jennifer Turner, Officer in Charge of the Pharmacy, explained the benefits for both staff and patients. “The kiosk reduces routine traffic at the refill counter, which shortens wait times and allows our team to focus on patients who require in-depth support,” Turner said. “It’s a win for efficiency, but more importantly, it’s a win for the patient experience.”

For MCAHC, the installation of the ScriptCenter is part of a broader effort to modernize services and align with the evolving needs of the military community. Whether it is Soldiers preparing for deployment, retirees managing long-term health conditions, or families balancing busy schedules, the kiosk provides a reliable, secure and flexible solution for prescription pickup.

With the new ScriptCenter in place, MCAHC continues its mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in support of the readiness and resilience of the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community.
