FALLS CHURCH, Va. –
TRICARE Open Season is almost here. So, get ready. Starting Nov. 8, you have a chance to make changes to your
TRICARE health plan for the upcoming plan year. If you have questions about open season, join the TRICARE webinar, “
Making the Most of the TRICARE Open Season,” on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. ET to learn about your coverage options for 2022.
“If you’re looking to make changes to your health care coverage next year, don’t miss your chance to do so,” said Jeremy Schneider, a program analyst with TRICARE Policy and Programs at the Defense Health Agency. “During the webinar, we’ll review your options during open season and compare plans and costs in order to help you choose the best health plan for your needs, or see if your current plan remains your best option.”
TRICARE Open Season doesn’t apply to every individual or plan. It applies only to those enrolled in or eligible for a
TRICARE Prime option (including the
US Family Health Plan) or
TRICARE Select. It doesn’t apply if you’re an active duty service member, nor if you’re using TRICARE For Life, TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, or Continued Health Care Benefit Program.
Active duty family members, as well as retirees and their family members with TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select coverage, can take part in TRICARE Open Season. You can stay in your current plan, enroll in a plan, or change plans during this time.
The only other way to enroll in or change your TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan is if you have a
Qualifying Life Event. Certain life events, such as moving to a new state, having a new baby, or getting married or divorced, allow you to make changes to your plan outside of open season, as described in the
TRICARE Qualifying Life Events Fact Sheet.
You may also have choices for dental and vision plans through the
Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). Your
eligibility depends on your beneficiary status. If you’d like FEDVIP dental or vision coverage next year, you must enroll during the
Federal Benefits Open Season. This open season also runs at the same time as the TRICARE Open Season—Nov. 8–Dec. 13. Keep in mind, FEDVIP and TRICARE are separate enrollments.
Enrollment choices made during open season will take effect on Jan. 1, 2022.
Register for the
Nov. 4 webinar to help you get ready for open season. A Q&A to ask questions will follow the presentation. To participate in it,
you must register. Registration for the webinar is limited.
