FALLS CHURCH, Va — Vector-borne diseases, or VBDs, pose a risk to U.S. service members during military training exercises, operations, response missions, and deployments outside the continental U.S. Malaria and dengue fever, the VBDs most commonly experienced by the military in the last 12 years, are transmitted by mosquitoes.
