1. Learn how TFL works
Did you know that
TRICARE For Life (TFL) coverage is automatic if you have both
Medicare Part A and Part B? Medicare and TRICARE For Life work together to coordinate benefits and reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Want to know how much of your care is covered and who pays what? Refer to the out-of-pocket costs table on page 9 of the handbook.
2. Read about your provider options
As stated in the handbook, “You have the freedom to seek care from any Medicare participating or Medicare nonparticipating provider, or
military hospital or clinic if space is available.” Seeing certain providers, like
Medicare participating providers, can save you money. On the other hand, seeing providers, like opt-out providers, can increase the amount you pay. The handbook can help you learn about the types of providers and potentially avoid unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses.
